The most imposing of the Sacred Mountains on Earth, the one that shows a great beautiful decoration, is located at 80 kms. east of Lima, next to the village of San Pedro de Casta, in the base of the Andes. Strong and mighty people, beginners of a complete culture, made 85 centuries ago, a dam from the waters of the rains, to irrigate the land that surrounded them, during the six months of the dry season. Converted this plateau into a firm fortress and a religious center with four huge altars. Handed over his dead to the Condors and decorated the 3 square Kms. with hundreds of marvelous sculptures, that no one can deny. Dr. Daniel Ruzo, dedicated many years to study Markawasi, to prove that this place was not a separated plateau, submitted to an impossible erosion; but the most important of all the Sacred Mountains of the Earth: accrediting a cultural reality and its symbols. The sculptures made on natural rock, to be seen from a point or a specific direction and with a special illumination conditions, prove a style in which could only be seen by people with a very deep believe in faith.

BACKPACKER PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
DAY 1.- LIMA - SAN PEDRO DE CASTA Departure from Lima at 6:30 AM. Arriving to Chosica, to continue to San Pedro de Casta, in the Santa Eulalia Valley. Arrival at mid-day, installation in a Hotel*. In the afternoon a hike in the surroundings for acclimatization. Overnight. DAY 2.- TREK TO THE PLATEAU OF MARKAWASI Early in the morning (7.00am), after breakfast, you will start the trail up to the Plateau of Markawasi, it will take aprox. 3 hours to get there. Once up in the plateau, there is a circuit that will take most of the day to walk, were you will be able to see these formations on the rocks, of different representations of animals, objects and human shapes. The angle of light will be very important, to see the shades on the rocks, that is the reason why is best to take a day for the visit, ending at the Monument of the Mankind, representation of this interesting place. In the afternoon return to the village. Overnight. DAY 3.- SAN PEDRO DE CASTA - LIMA About 7 am, starts the return, in the route you will observe once again the Santa Eulalia Valley, arriving to Chosica to continue back to Lima.
ALTERNATIVE: In case you have 2 days only, you can apply to this program with the Comfort Status, having a private vehicle that will be in town so you can make the return that afternoon after descending from the plateau, arriving at night to your hotel.
